Being built by the Great Indian Nautanki Company, the place will be called the Kingdom of Dreams. The giant auditorium is spread over nine acres and is coming up at Sector 29, Gurgaon at a cost of Rs 100 crore.
" This will be the first of its kind tourism and entertainment centre in India," an engineer associated with the project said.
" The media will be given a sneak preview of the auditorium in the last week of January. I won't like to comment on the project before that but this will be something which India has never seen before," Anumod Sharma, director of the Great Indian Nautanki Company.
The auditorium is likely to be unveiled in March. Sources said Amitabh Bachchan, Shankar Mahadevan and Karan Johar will be present at the opening ceremony, enthralling the audience with live performances.
" This is a new year gift for the residents of Gurgaon and other parts of the National Capital Region. Top actors and performers from India and other parts of the world will set the stage on fire almost every day," another official associated with the project said.
The auditorium, one of the biggest in the world, will seat about a 1,000 people and tickets for performances will range from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000.
It's not only the auditorium which will be the centre of attraction. The developers plan to offer much more to visitors. " A gallery called ` Little India Street' will display Indian handicrafts and traditional products on the lines of the India International Trade Fair in Delhi. Like IITF, this gallery will also have stalls of different states. Also, there will be four restaurants serving foods of north, south, east and west India," the official said.
Gurgaon residents welcomed the project.
" I have seen the glimpse of the project and, if executed as planned, it could become the prime spot for international tourists in India. Construction is going on in full swing and it will be over in some days as the workers are giving the finishing touch. It just looks like the set of a Bollywood period movie," Sanjay Giglani, a local resident, said.
The developers expect to draw a lot of international tourists with the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in the national Capital next year. More than 200 engineers and architects are working on the project.
The land for the project has been leased from the Haryana Urban Development Authority for a monthly rent of Rs 36 lakh.
